THE SYRIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH IN INDIA AND ITS APOSTOLIC FAITH
The gracious Holy Father informed Dionysius that incase he withdraws all his contentions and obtain Udampadies of submission to the Patriarch from the bishops consecrated by the excommunicated Abdul Massih the interdict on him would be lifted and the bishops might be accepted with due prayers on them. Mor Dionysius agreed.
The Holiness extremely pleased with the promises made by Dionysius sent with him Mor Julios Elias Metrapolitan. Mor Julios in his circular letter issued from Panampady on 27 Dhanu, 1923 has stated clearly Vattasseril's promises before the Patriarch!!!
On return to India however conditions agreed became disagreeable and circumstances more agreeable to Mor Dionysius.
A second motive is attributed by Mor Ivanios (Bethany Fr P T Geevarghese) in his GIRIDEEPAM. He says that on his way to Mardin Vattasseril Dionysius had discussions with the bishop of the Uniate Patriarch Ephrem Remani at Baghdad concerning his union with the Roman Catholic Church in case the talks failed at Mardin .On return Vattasseril Dionysius could not resume talks since Mor Julios had accompanied him. Mor Ivanios further discloses that a letter from Remani had reached Vattasseril at Parumala and Mor Ivanios was authorized to send a reply that Vattasseril Dionysius had no objection for union with the Roman Catholics but a final decision was possible only after consulting the other bishops!!!!
GIRIDEEPAM again states that in his letter from Kundara, 15 Chingam, 1926 Mor Gregorios Kallaseery (later Geevarghese II Catholicos) says that in a letter he received from the second Catholicos there was mentioned the desire for union with any ancient church! Mor Gregorios further states that he thinks the idea to be good and shall agree with Mor Ivanios' selection. Fr Inchakalody says (with proof) that the letter to Syrian Catholic Patriarch Remani was in the handwriting of the second Catholicos!
