I feel that we need to thank the moderators of SOCM for bringing us news of the activity of our various spiritual leaders and teachers.I have been following the information about His Eminence Dr. GeeVerghese Mor Coorilos and my curiosity was piqued. This made me search for more information about Thirumeni who has been a bishop for barely four years and yet seems to carry the burdens of a senior bishop.I was informed by various people that he takes a personal interest in the spiritual growth of the members and youth in his dioceses. Whenever he is there he takes the opportunity to communicate, teach and strengthen their spiritual and biblical knowledge. He also makes time to spend with his deacons and priests to meet their' educational' needs outside the formal teaching in the seminary.Apparently Thirumeni also teaches at the seminary.Besides being the bishop at Niranam, Thirumeni is the Patriarchal Vicar of U.K. where he is succeeding in his effort to strengthen the churches there.Thirumeni is a great and loved administrator. Along with all this he does a stupendous job as one of the moderators and speakers in the world council of churches. You must have seen this news in a recent SOCM message.I have heard from malayalees belonging to other denominations who are in the WCC that he is highly respected and liked. He has also been involved with NCCI.
Anyone would think that his plate would be overflowing by now, however, in addition to all this,as reported in SOCM Thirumeni is in charge of the evangelical branch of our church;also involved in raising money to build homes for the people after the tsunami and in overall charge of Theeram. If this is not enough he is the chairman of SCM- - - youth have always responded and liked Thrumeni.I honestly feel exhausted just thinking of all that Coorilose Thirumeni does. Let me not forget about the numerous books he has written!!!
Thirumeni has indeed helped bring our church from being an" exotic' church to being a mainstream orthodox church.
Let me hasten to say that there are other very talented, efficient, visionary.highly educated, administratively brilliant bishops in Malankara. For example take Timotheos Thirumeni. He is highly educated and one of a handful of church fathers who are experts in church history. I am told that his Kottayam diocese is the most smoothly run place with almost no problems even though the Devalokam is right there. He is highly respected and admired by people of all denominations. Besides he does not get involved in politics just like Coorilos Thirumeni does not either. Timotheos Thirumeni has brought in many innovative ideas, in fact he was the first Jacobite bishop to actively introduce marriage counseling and classes for couples who are engaged. His prayer meetings are so well received that people from other denominations also attend. His priests love and respect him and he is known to deal justly and kindly with them. Over the last decade or more till very recently Thirumeni started churches ,congregations and a monthly magazine as well, outside Kerala like Delhi,Bombay Bangalore etc. These churches are running on well oiled wheels at least for now. Recently he was able to help the church in Singapore come out of the doldrums and set them on a firm footing and gave them a good priest to establish a good solid congregation.
I am sure I must have missed a lot of other activities of these bishops. If so I apologise and hope the moderators and members will add it on.I just mentioned two bishops who are from my home dioceses. It would be good to hear from people who know about the other bishops so that we will not see them as perfect strangers but as leaders of our church, spiritually
