Dear and Respected Brethren,
In Digest 2933 Mr. V.T. John has asked: In SOCM-FORUM, Nakkolackal V. L. Eapen wrote on the short and sweet verse from the Lords Prayer "HALLOWED BE THY NAME." which I have read with great interest.
My question is [CAN ANYBODY EXPLAIN THE MATTER BASED ON THE SYRIAC FORM OF THE CAPTION VIZ.,"NETHKAADAAZ ZMO-K" which means Your Name be made Holy.
There is no doubt about the only prayer taught by our Lord and Savior which is always revered as Lords Prayer and the sentence quoted here is taken from the Lords Prayer. Our Lord taught the Holy Church to pray like this and recited the entire Lords Prayer. We all know that God is holy and His name is holy. As things are such, what would have been the intention of our Lord Jesus in teaching to pray to keep Gods name holy. And what is the connection with prayer of the humanity with Gods holiness? Could we think that we could add or reduce the holiness of God Almighty? After all to whom we are praying? What is the justification for the human prayer to keep
holiness of God?
We are sure and certain that the Holy Baptism is the sacrament which links one to the body of Christ, the Holy Church. During the sacrament of Holy Baptism, the holy name of the Holy Trinity would be written on the forehead of the girl or boy who is accepting the Holy baptism. Our Lord meant the name of the Holy Trinity written on the foreheads of each and every one of us. As we all are living in the world, we might add filth or dirt on the name of Holy Trinity. We all are created to remain in the Love of God. We all are supposed to be in the fullness of love. When selfishness would rise up, we would experience the shortage of the real Godly Love. In such conditions we would be spoiling the Holy name written on our foreheads. The name of God on our forehead is the sign of ownership of God. Hence we all must be fully immersed in Love in our words, deeds and thoughts. Err is human and hence we must return to God immediately as soon as we would realize that we are away from God. Holy Confession enables a faithful to be in God and to remain in Godly Love. Every time when we might utter this prayer, we admit our mistakes and agree that we are sinners. It is a call from the inner hearts to repentance. God will get pleased in our real and genuine repentance. Let us pray again and again: Hallowed be thy name.
May God bless us all.
