NEW JACOBITE SYRIAN CHURCH IN OMAN
Sultanate of Oman is a Gulf country and we have St Mary's Jacobite
Syrian Church in the capital city, Muscat. We have around 450
members here and our present vicar is Fr. Samson Varghese, and our
Metropolitan is H.G Mor Melitheios Yuhanon of Thumpamon Diocese.
Fr. Samson contacted some of our members in Salalah and he informed
H.G Mor Melethios about the need of our own church there. Then H.G
Melitheios visited Salalaha along with Fr. Samson Varghese and they
understand that our Syrian Jacobite members are going to other
churches for worship. So H.G Meletheios and Fr. Samson took a
decision to start a Syrian Jacobite Church in Salalah. St Mary's
J.S. Church, Muscat supported for all the initial expenses for the
frequent visits by Fr. Samson and to bring H.G. Mor Clemis Daniel
Kourieh, Patriarchal Vicar from Lebanon as the Patriarchal delegate
to meet Oman's Ministers for the approval of Church and a Vicar.
After meeting our members, with the permission of H.H Patriarch
Fr.Samson offered first Holy Qurbana on Apriil 2nd and conducted
general body meeting to elect managing committee. Now by the Grace
of GOD, The ONE WHO builds all our Churches for us, we got the
permission from Oman Govt. to start our own church.
Now Fr. Abey Stephen joined as the vicar on 9th Dec 07 on the day
of St John the Baptist's, and it is wonder to know that H.H
Patriarch announce the name of our church 10 months before as 'ST
JOHN'S SYRIAN JACOBITE ORTHODOX CHURCH'- SALALAH.
