Apparently the symbol practice was not limited to Slovakia. For the past severals months I have been reviewing Evangelical baptism records for the Neidenburg district of East Prussia and found several records with a "o-o-o" recorded in the father's name column. In another column of the record is an entry indicating the child was illegimite. These records were from the 1840's. Records for illegimite births from the 1860's just have a blank in the father's name column.
