Faith Program Director
East Bay Housing Organizations is the leading affordable housing advocacy
organization serving the East Bay through its mission to preserve, protect
and expand the supply of decent, affordable housing. This dynamic
coalition includes more than 130 organizations and community leaders
advocating for favorable housing policies and affordable housing
development at the local and regional level. EBHO's members include
non-profit housing developers, homeless advocates and service providers,
fair housing agencies, tenant advocates, housing counseling agencies,
architects, development consultants, banks, municipal housing staff and
elected officials. EBHO has strong allies within the business, labor,
environmental and faith-based communities.
Job Summary: The Faith Program Director is responsible for coordinating a
new initiative at EBHO to expand the number of faith-based organizations
working on affordable housing issues. Faith-based organizations have made
significant contributions to address the affordable housing crisis in the
East Bay. As allies in addressing the affordable housing crisis, these
organizations bring a wealth of resources, including: a commitment to
social justice, a community base of support, local leadership and
resources such as people and land.
The specific goals of the Faith Program are to:
1) Provide education and technical assistance specifically tailored to
2) Organize strong local, regional and interfaith networks;
3) Organize faith-based organizations in affordable housing advocacy
4) Foster potential partnerships between faith-based organizations and
non-profit housing providers; and
5) Build effective leadership and lasting commitments to affordable housing
within faith-based communities. This is an excellent opportunity for a
creative organizer with experience working with faith-based communities
and a commitment to affordable housing.
The Faith Program Director reports directly to the Executive Director.
Duties and responsibilities include: * Develop Program goals and
strategies based on EBHO's work to date and best practices * Work with an
advisory committee * Expand number of faith-based organizations and groups
working on affordable housing * Engage faith-based organizations in
affordable housing advocacy campaigns * Identify and develop leadership
within a variety of faith-based organizations * Foster cross-sector
partnerships between faith-based organizations and others in the
affordable housing arena * Providing technical assistance and trainings,
lead workshops and serve as a resource * Perform administrative tasks
necessary to the Project, including maintaining list of contacts and
preparing newsletter articles and reports for funders * Provide support to
EBHO's other activities as needed
Qualifications: Minimum of five years experience working in community or
faith based organizing, community development or a related field. BA
degree desirable but will substitute for additional experience.
Familiarity with faith-based organizations. Strong verbal and writing
skills to communicate diplomatically and effectively. Experience working
with coalitions of diverse groups and demonstrated sensitivity to racial,
ethnic and economic diversity. Self-motivated, with the ability to work in
a fast-paced collaborative and professional environment.
