The Urban and Regional Planning Department at San José State
University is searching for part-time faculty to teach 3 classes in
the Fall 2013 semester:
- URBP 201: Community Assessment
- URBP 228: Urban Community Development
- URBP 240: Environmental Planning

COMMUNITY ASSESSMENT (URBP 201)
In this 6-unit graduate-level studio course, students apply theories
and techniques of community participation and analysis to identify the
assets, problems, and opportunities of an urban community.
The course will be offered in Fall 2013 on Wednesdays, from 4:30 – 10:00 p.m.
URBAN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT (URBP 228)
This graduate-level course covers the role, objectives and policies of
the urban community development process; the social, economic,
political and physical implications underlying community development
programs; and relationships of these programs to comprehensive urban
The course will be offered in Fall 2013 on Tuesdays, from 7:30 – 10 p.m.
ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING (URBP 240)
This 4-unit graduate course examines the fundamental concepts and
issues related to urban environment that planners face with a focus on
land use and open space planning, planning and use of urban resources,
interactions of urban residents and the physical environment, and the
role of government in formulating appropriate policies and strategies.
The course will be offered in Fall 2013 on Mondays, from 4:30 – 7:00 p.m.
The ideal candidates will have:
1. A master’s degree in urban planning or a closely related field (required).
2. Substantial professional and/or academic experience related to the
course subject matter.
3. A strong record of teaching experience.

The Department of Urban and Regional Planning offers graduate study
leading to the degree of Master of Urban Planning. This program,
accredited by the Planning Accreditation Board, is designed to prepare
skilled professionals who are well grounded in the theories, methods,
and techniques of planning in local, regional, and state government
for the purpose of improving the quality of urban regions. In
addition, it provides students with an opportunity for developing a
significant background in a particular area of specialization. A
