The Planning Intern will work under the guidance and direction of the Director, Planning, and/or the Manager, Planning, and will assist with a variety of transportation planning projects and studies. The Planning Intern will facilitate community outreach efforts; coordinate with local and regional transportation stakeholders; collect, analyze and interpret transportation data, and prepare planning memoranda as needed.
The Planning Intern shall be currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate planning or public administration program. The Planning Intern must have a passion for working in the public sector and facilitating community development, and have a basic understanding of transportation, transit and land use planning principles.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS* AND DUTIES:
* Participates in the preparation of the SamTrans Strategic Plan, the Bus Rapid Transit phasing plan, and the outreach and development of the SamTrans Service Plan (a comprehensive analysis of the bus system). The Planning Intern may also support the launch of the regional Bicycle Sharing demonstration project.
* Facilitates community outreach efforts.
* Coordinates with local regional transportation stakeholders.
* Collects, analyzes, and interprets transportation data.
* Prepares planning memoranda, as needed.
* Supports the launch of the regional Bicycle Sharing demonstration project.
Performs other duties as assigned.
This position will work under the guidance and direction of the Director, Planning, and/or the Manager, Planning, who will evaluate performance.
