Title: NeighborWalk Program Coordinator
Summary: The City of San José City Manager's Office seeks a student intern to coordinate and develop an already well established program, NeighborWalk. NeighborWalk is a program that encourages neighbors to walk together with the purpose of creating and maintaining clean, safe and engaged neighborhoods.
Duties and Responsibilities: Along with previously established neighborhood leaders, the intern will recruit walkers, schedule the walks, and determine the purpose of the walks (litter pick up, graffiti removal, code enforcement, exercise and/or socializing) and the routes taken. The intern will prepare written reports on NeighborWalk experiences and give suggestions on how to improve the continuously growing project. The intern will also collaborate with Nextdoor, a private social media site for neighborhoods, to notify participating neighbors of upcoming walks in their neighborhoods.
The intern will be expected to have excellent interpersonal skills, be very outgoing and not timid of contacting new people. Relevant experience in community organizing is preferred.
Hours: Hours are flexible with a minimum requirement of 20 hours per week.
