Hollywood vs. Silicon Valley: SPUR’s Plan for High-Speed Rail
Thursday, July 5, 2012, 12:30 p.m.
California's diverse economy includes two iconic and historically
distinct economic districts: Silicon Valley and Hollywood. Yet the
recent democratization of content facilitated by technology is
challenging Hollywood's traditional role as a tastemaker. A recent
SPUR paper makes the case that the increasing integration of both
economies is further argument for high-speed rail and a demonstration
that California might be able to pay for the system on its own. Learn
from Executive Director Gabriel Metcalf and Regional Planning Director
Egon Terplan about SPUR's proposal for self-funding high-speed rail as
a way to connect Hollywood and Silicon Valley.
