County Manager’s Office 2010 Internship
San Mateo County has 5,600 employees that provide a wide range of services
funded by a budget of over $1.7 billion. The Office of the San Mateo
County Manager oversees all County operations and includes three
divisions: Budget and Performance, Intergovernmental Affairs and
Community Services. The Manager’s Office is looking for an intern
interested in public services and willing to work on a variety of
projects. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
Students that are excited about contributing to the community and
interested in environmental sustainability are encouraged to apply.
The 2010 internship will focus on three areas:
-Updating countywide performance measures
The County assesses the outcomes of our many programs by tracking a number
of community based performance measures. The intern will gather FY
2009/10 data and assess trends for the key measures we track.
-The SMCNews Blog
About 70,000 residents live in the unincorporated areas of the County,
which dot the peninsula and include most of the land area west of the
coastal mountains. The County provides “city” types services to these
residents and SMCNews is an information news site just for these
residents. The intern will review Board of Supervisors agendas and other
documents and research and draft posts for the SMCNews.
-Residential Energy Action Program
San Mateo County is part of Bay Area wide grant funded project to promote
residential energy efficiency. All 20 cities in the county are
participating in this project. The intern will work with project staff
developing marketing materials, conducting presentations and coordinating
trainings and other events to be held throughout the County.
The internship will pay $12 an hour up to 40 hours a week, however total
weekly hours are negotiable. Although not required, there may be
opportunities to attend and participate in evening and/or weekend meetings
and do community presentations.
Please submit your application through CalOpps if you are interested in
this position. Emailed resumes will not be accepted in lieu of filing an
application through CalOpps.
