Description: The Tranter-Leong Management Internship Program
Revan Tranter, Executive Director Emeritus of the Association of Bay Area
Governments (ABAG), and Eugene Leong, former Executive Director of ABAG,
have established an annual summer graduate student internship program with
the objective of promoting and advancing the field of public
administration and the careers of students who are pursuing graduate
degrees in public policy or public administration, political science,
planning, or related fields with the goal of working in local or regional
For more than 30 years, from 1973 to 2005, Revan A.F. Tranter and Eugene
Y. Leong served as Executive Directors of ABAG and together served the
agency for more than 50 years. Both desired to increase the quality and
professionalism of public administrators and managers. They actively
sought to expand opportunities for women and minorities in the field.
Therefore, qualified women and minorities are highly encouraged to apply
for this internship.
Preference will be given to Bay Area residents, without regard to
ethnicity, who are interested in launching careers in public service in
the Bay Area. The Management Intern’s assignments and projects will be
developed and overseen by ABAG’s Executive Director.
