the Position: The Planning Technician is an entry-level position
responsible for performing a wide range of technical planning duties in
support of open space planning and land acquisition activities. Typical
projects may include the development of charts, posters, maps and other
graphics in a digital format; serving on the District’s sign committee,
preparing signage text and graphics, and maintaining a sign inventory;
taking responsibility for small-scale planning and capital improvement
projects such as, trail and building repairs; and assisting with complex
large-scale planning and capital improvement projects. The Planning
Technician will function within a team environment and participate in
consensus decision-making and other team activities.
Requirements: Excellent interpersonal, written and oral
communication skills. General knowledge of principles and practices of
land use planning, environmental assessments and resource management;
field work experience; basic knowledge of landscape architecture and site
design, detailing and construction; and skills in map and graphic
techniques and production. Equivalent to one year of responsible landscape
architecture, parks or open space planning experience with computer
related graphics and computer assisted drafting and/or at least two years
college level course work in landscape architecture, environmental
planning or a related field. Bachelor’s degree highly desirable.
Experience with Adobe Illustrator, ArcGIS or other GIS software, and
proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software is desirable. Valid
California driver’s license required.
Conditions: Primarily office environment; occasionally work alone
in field environment including travel from site to site for field data
collection. Routinely sitting for prolonged periods of time; extensive use
