Mahy has been a vegetarian for 55 years, 35 as a vegan and has been active with
the San Francisco Vegetarian Society for 43 of its 44 years, presently serving
as its president. Although she retired
from teaching after 28 years at Galileo
High School , she continues to be very
active organizing events including the recent 40th IVU International
Vegetarian Congress along with the 13th World Veg Festival in the Golden Gate Park last October. At 79, she is an example of a healthy vegan.
