The California Rare Fruit Growers - Festival of Fruit is in Santa Rosa at
Festival of Fruit August 12 - 16
California Rare Fruit Growers annual Festival of Fruit will be here being
hosted by the Redwood Chapter this year. This is a very active
organization, which includes small commercial fruit growers like myself and
gardeners and hobbyists. This year is the ³Year of the Olive² which means
olives will be covered in detail but many other fruits will be also.
Speaking for 2 sessions and at the dinner that night at Shone Farm is
Michael Phillips, author of The Apple Grower. He gave an informative and
entertaining workshop at Eco-Farm this year. Speakers include our very own
Wendy Krupnick on Green Fruit Growing. There are some great workshops which
will be held at SRJC 8/15/09 and a lot of tours e week before, see
festivaloffruit.org. Yes, we know that August 15 conflicts with other farm
markets and the Gravenstein Apple Fair.
CRFG is soliciting venders to set up tables in the parking lot at SRJC. The
exact hours are not set yet. They are mainly interested in farmers selling
fruit, processed fruit or equipment relating to fruit. They expect about
400 to attend the festival which is not a great crowd to draw from. Wendy
has suggested that we have a table for any CAFF farmers wanting to
participate and use that for CAFF literature also. Then one person can
cover for all while the rest of us can be taking in workshops. If you want
your own table, contact Kalia at kalia@...
> or 829-3478 or through the festival web site.
Email is best as she will be out of town some between now and the festival.
If you want to share a table with other farmers and CAFF literature, contact
me at fresh@...
> or 433-6802.
