Why strain nut milks?
Straining nut milks is good for people who want a milk and for those who
need a milk. The solid particles are not going to digest well or at all for
most people. Strained milks digest more easily and quickly, leaving us more
energetic. lf you have sensitive digestion and are recovering from
inflammatory bowel disease, and in any case if you do not want to overburden
your colon with a constipating mass of nut solids, or if you are feeding an
infant or young child then straining is the way to go. If you fall into any
of those categories, the nut particles can and will not be gentle on the
lining of your intestines and colon. If you already have constipation then
have grated nuts or chewed nuts or un-strained nut milk, most will end up
with hard painful stool pieces, scraping (like sandpaper) and more misery.
Too much colon scraping can lead to bleeding and colitis. Also, when
high-protein foods do not digest well because we overeat them, or we just
don¹t secrete enough stomach acid to break them down, or we combing foods
poorly, or if we eat when tired, the protein will putrefy in the bowel and
cause all kinds of toxic problems which will also contribute to colitis and
poor health. If your digestion is not strong and if your bowels are already
toxic, nut milks are not the right food choices you need to clean out on
water, fruits and juices or just water. If you prefer to make nut milk and
not strain it, be aware of these signs that you are overeating and not
digesting it: constipation, putrid gas and stools, achy or painful gut, acid
reflux, skin eruptions.
Eating nuts and seeds in moderation is usually safe and healthful.
Chronically eating more than you can digest (for most people it¹s really
only about 2 oz. per day) is certain disaster. In 22 years of being a raw
fooder with a sensitive gut, of seeing, talking to many raw fooders and
living with and counseling many people with inflammatory bowel disease and
related disorders as well as ³healthy² people, I have found that the ways
people incorrectly eating nuts and seeds is typically the most problematic
dietary issue they face. It¹s not easy for some to minimize nut and seed
eating, because they are so satisfying, but that¹s what most of us who have
gut problems or just toxic bowels and body odors need to do.
To your good health!
