Good morning, Christina,
A thought for a possible replacement for wool: I found a lovely hunter
green blend of tencel, rayon, and cotton. It has a very similar drape
and "heft" to it that wool does. I am using it as a medium weight cape.
The fabric brushes off similarly to wool, and does not wrinkle
horribly. It is lined with a cotton/rayon blend that is very tightly
woven (helps with the wind). If I were making this my heavier weight
cloak, I would throw in one more interlining fabric, also with a very
tight weave (like windbreaker fabric?) to cut down on the wind and
possibly rain factor.
While nothing duplicates wool for lightweight and water resistant
warmth, this fibre has so far been a good substitute.
