True, but I always start from the top, in case I've measured wrongly. It's
easier and less obvious to add material at the bottom than the top. I once
cut the front and back gores of a gown too short (or rather, I found I
needed to start the gores higher, as I'd cut the front and back part a bit
narrow), so I added a piece at the bottom and covered the seam with
herringbone embroidery all round the hem, which not only did the trick, but
gave the whole gown extra 'oomph'.
