I can't substantiate this claim but a friend who studied historical costume
told me that women would sometimes have a loop of fabric/ribbon hidden under
the hem of the gown that you could hook around your fingers/wrist to hold up
the train and make manuevering easier...

>I would like to put a typical round skirt on to a Burgundian gown for more
>of a "practical" skirt...I have a big problem with people stepping on my
>trains. Does anyone know if this can be documented or even if a "round
>skirt" can be documented?
