From my own experience with my Necchi, it means that the tension on the bobbin is too loose. Try taking the bobbin housing(?) out and looking for a screw in the side of it. Turn it to the left (hopefully) and see if the thread pulls out with some resistance, then put it back in and try again. Hopefully this will work. Also check and see if your machine has a knob that you can adjust the tension from the outside and try that. Hopefully it will be one of the two ways that I know about. Maybe someone else on the list has a Brother and could help even more. Best of Luck.

Subject: [SCA-Garb] My sewing machine woed
Has anyone had any experience with a Brother machine spontaneously changing
it's bobbin tension?
I have a machine that's about 9 years old now, it seems that I have to have
the damn thing tuned up every few months! Am I doing something wrong? I
don't even know HOW to adjust bobbin tension so I suppose it is possible
that I am doing it inadvertently.
As for the symptom, the sewing looks fine on the topside but on the bottom
it is snarled and really ugly.
