First - thanks for all your advice re bodice creation. I will be working on
the bodice after our big event at the end of June.
Right now I'm working on a front-lacing kirtle. Using the Reconstructing
History Pattern. Instructions are not the best IMO, as they aren't detailed
enough for my liking. But that's another post. I have left voice mails, but
need to get on with making this so I have some garb to wear.
Right now I'm trying to plan for the front lacing. Being a bit generously
proportioned up top, I'm concerned about interfacing the front edges. Read
on a few pages that some women use a cable tie to reinforce this. Also,
what about a placket to hide the inevitable gap. Suggestions?
I've been reading some hundred thousand web pages- slight exaggeration
obviously. One page suggests, and I think it makes sense, to finish the
front opening edges and do lacing holes before the rest of the
This is not going to a be supportive kirtle - I will be wearing a modern
bra underneath. I need the support or I end up with horrid back pain.
Eventually, I hope to get to the point of making a supportive kirtle, but
that time isn't now.
thanks in advance.
