Boning in a kirtle: I myself put a line of boning in the front closure for a
front-lacing kirtle. You will probably find that it closes better if you put
the lacing holes right on the outer edge of the boning, too: I learned much
to my chagrin that setting them slightly further outside creates unsightly
I don't have definitive answers on the rest: I usually use a simple
long-sleeved smock underneath, much the sort that appears in the Elizabethan
Underpinnings pattern set. I'm considering a placket for modesty's and
attractiveness's sake, though. Aprons seem to be gathered into the
waistband, maybe with a band of embroidery?
