This is the list we generated a last year from our shopping
expedition. The Canton of Brokenbridge (Brooklyn, NY) ran a Cloth to
Clothing A&S series led by Ibrahim al-Rashid (Matt Pius) last year.
Disclaimer. This list is from a year ago, so please check to make
sure they are still open. Or you can still wander up and down those
couple of streets and just peak in and browse the stores since most of
the ones listed are in the fashion district. P&S Fabrics has moved a
little down the street. It's around Chinatown on Broadway, their
selection is no where near what it was before.
Have fun and enjoy... Just a quick reminder that there is no tax on
cloth in NYC b/c it's considered clothing. Prices are... all over the
place. somethings are really really cheap and other things are
ridiculously expensive. and the saying really is true that you can
find ANYTHING in NYC, the only problem is you have to know where to
look, which usually ends up meaning you never find ANYTHING...

Fabric for Less
239 W 39 Street
Lots of fabric on markdowns, including 100% wool and 100% linen
about 4 doors down east of Fabric for Less run by the same people and
also with lots of markdowns.
Also, for those not necessarily looking for bargains:
Paron Fabrics ( 206 W 40 Street) - lots of high end stuff, good fake
fur and silk fabrics.
Gray Lines Linen (260 W 39 Street) - all 100% linen, with wholesale
pricing on >15 yds.
Bazar Fabrics (256 W 39 Street) - almost all 100% silk fabric,
including a lot of pre-embroidered and pre-beaded items.
B&J Fabrics (55 7 Ave, second floor) - we didn't visit this one, but
they're HUGE and no matter what you're looking for, they probably have it.
This one is only open Monday-Friday, but they have lots of notions
like hooks/eyes, twill tape, boning, etc.:

These are the shops we visited yesterday that I liked, I didn't bother
taking down the address of the ones I didn't. 39th st between 7th and
8th has a large number of fabric and trim shops.

Large store of all different kinds of fabric. If you can't find it
here you probably can't find it anywhere. Expensive though

8th Large selection of all types of fabrics especially silks and brocades.

The City Quilter 133 West 25th Street 6th & 7th Tuesday to Friday, 11
- 7 pm Saturday, 10 - 6 pm Sunday, 11 - 5 pm Closed Mondays The only
quilting shop in Manhattan! I LOVE this store. But not really SCA
period. But they have quilting cotton that I've used as a "cheat" for
