If you have access to hay bales, they make a decent backstop. If you
can put them on a wooden pallet (like used in shipping) and run a
strap around the bales and crank it down with a $5 ratchet from
Wal-Mart, that compresses the bales and makes them an even better
backstop. And you can glue the target to a piece of cardboard and
tie it to the bales.
That and adding old tires will make a pretty good Backstop , that what Lord
Tor built for his range.
