Building and Leveraging Diversity in the Nonprofit Boardroom, January 13This is a perfect example of how the corporatization process is now taking over the "diversity education business"...this must be carefully considered and dealt with by anthropology and anthropologists as we continue to mostly remain on the sidelines of this use and abuse of our field.

Building and Leveraging Diversity
in the Nonprofit Boardroom
A seminar for nonprofit chief executives and board leaders.
As America becomes dramatically more diverse, nonprofits strive to make strong relationships with their communities across culture, race, gender, age and other dimensions of diversity that are related to their success. They do this with the hope that by having diverse representation on their board it will ensure that diverse voices are heard and incorporated into their organization's governance practices. Yet, making diversity meaningful in the boardroom is not only an opportunity but can also present a challenge. This workshop will reinforce the business case for increasing diversity on boards, explore tools and initiatives for increasing representation and examine practices that enhance inclusion. Topics to be considered include:
- The business case for diversity in the boardroom
- Representation vs. Tokenism
- Moving beyond diversity from access and legitimacy
- Enhancing cultural competence of the entire board
- Harnessing diversity of thought and expression for the good of the organization BVU accepts online registrations from those paying with credit cards. If you wish to pay by check, please download the registration form at http://www.businessvolunteers.org/1-13.pdf
