12 pm - 2pm
Meet Director: Jan Merka Course Setter: Jon Torrance
Come enjoy another Quantico Orienteering Club meet at Bowie, MD. The 1:7500
map scale is a little bit unusual but is needed to capture the wealth of
features that will make for very interesting navigation. The Fran Uhler
Natural Area is very flat but sports lots of water features (Patuxent river,
small streams, ponds and marshes) while old mining activity provided
innumerable ditches, pits and knolls.
Full spectrum of courses ranging from the children's Streamer-O to advanced
Blue will be available:
Streamer-O 1.5 km 6 controls
White 2.4km 11 controls
Yellow 3.3km 11 controls
Orange 3.7km 18 controls
Brown 4.0km 18 controls
Green 5.8km 20 controls
Red 6.7km 25 controls
Blue 8.0km 25 controls
Climb will be very low on all courses. Distances and number of controls
may yet change slightly on some courses due to small tweaks in course design
and double checking the distance calculations.
Parking and registration will be on the Bowie State University campus near the
athletic track but no bathroom facility will be available. There will be 0.8
km walk to start/finish from the registration. Start will be open 12pm - 2pm
and all runners must be out of the woods by 4pm.
Volunteers are needed to help us with the meet - we need help at the
registration, start and finish and later with control pick-up. Please let me
know at merka@...
or call 240-295-0982 so I could sleep better
knowing that we have enough hands :)
