MAYOR WALKUP AND COUNCIL MEMBER UHLICH ANNOUNCE PLAN TO CONTINUE 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION
PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP ENSURES THE SHOW WILL GO ON
Mayor Bob Walkup and Ward III City Council Member Karin Uhlich announced today that Tucson's 4th of July Fireworks Celebration at "A" Mountain will occur this year, keeping alive a long-standing tradition.
In the last 24 hours, Walkup and Uhlich secured commitments of more than $65,000 for the 4th of July Celebration from:
Pascua Yaqui Tribe - $20,000
Desert Diamond Casino - $10,000
Tucson Electric Power - $10,000
Cox Communications - $10,000
Arizona Builder's Alliance - $3,000
Several anonymous donors - $12,500
Funds collected in addition to what is necessary for this year's celebration will be put in a dedicated fund for future 4th of July celebrations. Additional contributions to the effort can be made by contacting either the Mayor's office at 791-4201 or the Ward III Council Office at 791-4711.
"Tucsonans will be able to enjoy the celebration of our nation's independence with a fantastic fireworks display," said Uhlich. "I am extremely grateful to our private donors for stepping up to the plate in such a significant way."
Stated Mayor Walkup, "The coming together of the private sector with the public sector to ensure we can celebrate the 4th of July together, illustrates the strength of our community. The show will go on!"
