The paper was by Shmuel Peleg et al, the method was commercialised for creating lenticular prints, the method was incorporated into StereoPhoto Maker (SPM) and descibed by myself here :-
Using a Canon A620 in 640x480 movie mode and rotated by a disco ball motor, I was able to create the stereo panorama shown at the top of this page :-
You can download as a ZIP file and use SPM to view with whatever method (including shutter glasses) you like.
Unlike any other stereo capture method, you can alter the camera spacing after the event !
You do that by taking the strips at a different distance from the centre.
