Ahoy Members and
The Council maintains a
membership and interest in the San Francisco Maritime National Park Association.
Individuals are encouraged to do likewise. The Park is a San Francisco maritime
treasure and the Association does a credible job supporting it. It would be good
to get more council members on its board of directors.
How about an event or
two this year at the Park? I have an idea or two but maybe you do as well.

Thanks to you, our Members,
Supporters and Friends, for your continued support and
donations. We are sailing into 2012 with strong
educational programs including our new science programs,
enticing events such as our annual Fleet Week viewing
party and activities including sailing the bay on the
. A heartfelt thanks to all of you for
making all this possible!
Educational Programs are Booming!
It has been an amazing Fall in the
National Park and at our hands-on education programs.
More than 3,500 students and 950 adults have enjoyed our
programs since August! We’ve been hard at work
sailing, building, rigging, climbing, experimenting,
living and learning aboard the historic ships. Our Youth
Boat Building partnership was featured
in the New York Times
AND we have been awarded a
grant from the Mary
A. Crocker Trust
which will help in funding next
The immersive learning
programs on our World War II submarine are going strong!
History is brought to life with new programs including
our ‘hard hat’ tours where students get into the
superstructure of the Pampanito
and even crawl
through some tight zones. Our science program is dynamic
with students learning about concepts like electricity
and magnetism with hands on learning including building
a chemical battery. We, the teachers and staff at the
, look forward to more of these
inspired teaching opportunities in 2012. More
Christmas at Sea… A
to Santa was presided over by two impish elves.
Providing sparkles and spelling tips, they ran the
‘Letters To Santa’ campaign while parents enjoyed
Maritime Members’ in-store discounts. Santa boarded the
Balclutha after shanties and stories were
shared. He shared candy canes and long lists with his
devotees as they shared their holiday wishes! Ho Ho… A
