Today the Office for Civil Rights at the USED released new CRDC data. A summary is available at:Some salient findings regarding students with disabilities:
-Students covered under IDEA are over twice as likely to receive one or more out-of-school suspensions.
-Students with disabilities (under the IDEA and Section 504 statutes) represent 12% of students in the sample, but nearly 70% of the students who are physically restrained by adults in their schools.- African-American students represent 21% of students with disabilities (under the IDEA), but 44% of students with disabilities who are subject to mechanical restraint.Access to full data (school and district level) is available at http://ocrdata.ed.gov/Candace CortiellaDirectorThe Advocacy Institute
