BELGRADE -- The Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) has condemned
Kosovo status proposal.
In a statement issued today, the Serbian Orthodox Church's Holy Synod
calls on all the responsible international community officials to
"prevent UN envoy Martti Ahtisaari in his dangerous intention to, on
behalf of someone, take the most precious part of its territory from
Serbia, one of Europe's oldest states".
"A peaceful future cannot be based on dictatorship of force, but
rather on recognizing the principle that everyone has the right to
dignity and equal opportunities", the statement reads, adding that,
"God is eternal, while any force is transitory".
The Holy Synod reminds that Kosovo has been inhabited by Serbs for
over a thousand years, "and until the great migrations of the Serbian
nation, almost exclusively by Serbs".
