Russian conference underway in Beijing
BEIJING, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- An international "Russian Culture"
conference underway in Beijing deals with the national character and
philosophical origins of the country.
The conference, which also includes discussions on orthodoxy in
Russian history and the relationship between Russia and China,
involves more than 100 Russian and Chinese teachers, students and
scientists at Beijing Pedagogical University, Itar-Tass reported
"Now dozens and hundreds of thousands of Chinese and Russians are
involved in contacts, which are acquiring an ever more civilized
character," said Li Yingnan, director of the Russian Language Center
of the Beijing University of Foreign Languages.
Participants expressed hope that the conference would build stronger
ties between the two countries.
"Growing migration of people, cultural exchanges between Russia and
China require the formation of culture of interethnic intercourse,
overcoming of negative directions, stereotypes and prejudices," said
Anatoly Dmitriyev, a Russian sociologist and corresponding member of
the Russian Academy of Sciences.
