Thanks to Karen Gilbert, Orange County finally has a Common Grackle on the county list! I've downloaded one photo to the blackbird folder. Karen found it late this morning (November 9), but soon lost it. It was in front near the Costco outdoor food court. Steve Morris, Irene Horiuchi, Leo Ohtsuki and I wandered about the parking lot for maybe 30 or 45 minutes before we observed the bird fly in from the north (on east side of the building) and land in front of the foodcourt. We followed it for maybe 10 or 15 minutes before it obtained a food item and left around the west side of the building and vanished off to the north. About 30 minutes later, Leo and I found the bird again in front near the foodcourt. We followed it for another 10 minutes or so before it left - this time heading south over Katella Blvd and appeared to enter a clump of 3 or 4 tall palms clumped together (we could see one grackle in these palms). This clump of palms is about 100 or 200 yards south of Katella Blvd. This may have been about 2:30 pm.
Thank you Karen!
