Subject: [FriendsOfUSA] Zimbabwe, pictures of post-election violence
As most of you know, Zimbabwe right now is one of the most troubled places on the face of the Earth and yet we very rarely here of what is going on there from the US television news organizations. Fortunately, the wire services do report on it and every day you can find more about the recent elections, how Robert Mugabe and his ZANU-PF party is trying to delay losing control of the government through torture, murders and other violence. Unfortunately, Mugabe does not allow much access of the foreign press to things going on there and he controls the local press. Consequently, the wire services keep us informed of what is going on, but typically have no pictures to demonstrate what they are saying. But you cannot stop every camera. Attached here are some photos dated April 19 that a friend of mine from Zambia (just next door to Zimbabwe) sent. They bear witness to what the newspapers and wire services if not the television have been saying. Warning! They are brutal. You might want to consider waiting until you are not eating or trying to sleep. We need to get the word out somehow even if it is not important to the TV news. Please forward this to whomever you think cares about what is going on in Zimbabwe today.
