August 6th - Hiroshima Day
Winston Churchill lied to Roosevelt that Hitler had several times to get Churchill to agree to a none aggression treaty after Hitler stated he did not want to invade England.
In 1941 Chief Air Marshall Sir Charles Portal of the British Air Staff advocated that entire cities and towns should be bombed. Portal claimed that this would quickly bring about the collapse of civilian morale in Germany. Air Marshall Arthur Harris agreed and when hebecame head of RAF Bomber Command in February 1942, he introduced a policy of area bombing (known in Germany as terror bombing) where entire cities and towns were targeted.
The idea was to TERRORIZED the civilian population and attacks were launched on Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne, Dresden and other German cities. This air campaign killed an estimated 600,000 civilians and destroyed or seriously damaged some six million homes.
In February 13, 1945 Dresden was fired bombed resulting in over 100,000 died. The attack was needless, ordered personally by Winston Churchill over the objections of his air marshal, who had demanded a written order from the Prime Minister before reluctantly giving a directive for the bombing.
The firebombing of Dresden was a military bombing by the British Royal Air Force and the United States Army Air Force between 13 and 15 February 1945. Also used was a very large bomb called a Blockbuster which had enough explosive power to destroy an entire city block. Death toll estimates by an independent investigation commissioned by the city council in 2010 reported a minimum of 22,700 victims with a maximum total number of fatalities of 25,000. The resulting firestorm destroyed 15 square miles of the city center. Also the war crime of wanton destruction of civilian infrastructure and so recognized by the leaders in today's US military.

In direct comparison with the bombing of Hamburg in 1943, which created one of the greatest firestorms raised by the RAF and United States Army Air Force, killing roughly 50,000 civilians in Hamburg and practically destroying the entire city, and the bombing of Pforzheim in 1945, killing roughly 18,000 civilians.
During the last seven months of the war against Japan, firebombing by B-29s resulted in some 500,000 Japanese deaths and 5 million more made homeless. Sixty seven of Japan's largest cities lost significant area to incendiary attacks. The most deadly single bombing raid in all history was Operation Meetinghouse, an incendiary attack. Beginning on March 9, 1945 the firebombing attacks on Tokyo killed some 100,000 civilians and destroyed approximately 32 square miles of the city. The B-29 groups were under the direct command of General H Arnold and the Joint Chief-of-Staff in Washington DC.
General Curtis LeMay, USAF, had experienced the bombing of cities in Germany as the leader of the 8th Air Force. Now in the Pacific theatre, he was convinced of one thing that any city making any form of contribution to Japan's war effort should be destroyed. In January 1945, LeMay took command of the 20th Bomber Command. By the end of April, 11 more square miles of cities had been destroyed. One and a half square miles of Yokohama, three and a half square miles of Kawasaki joined the areas destroyed.
In May Nagoya became a target with the loss of four square miles of the city. Tokyo lost 17 more square miles. Nine square miles of Yokohama were wiped out towards the end of May. Osaka lost of over 136,000 homes and almost 4,000 casualties. Toyama, a small urban area of 128,000, was 100% destroyed. From May to August, US planes firebombed 58 Japanese cities. Four cities, though, were kept off the firebombing list; those included Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Niigata and Kokura.
A study published by the German government in 1989 estimated the death toll of German civilians in Eastern Europe at 635,000. With 270,000 dying as the result of Soviet war crimes, 160,000 deaths occurring at the hands of various nationalities during the expulsion of Germans after World War II, and 205,000 deaths in the Forced labor of Germans in the Soviet Union. These figures do not include at least 125,000 civilian deaths in the Battle of Berlin and after the Soviet troops took control of the city, for three days they of raped and pillaged.
In occupied Manchuria, China, 700,000 Soviet Russian troops terrorized the people and looted the entire region of valuable materials and industrial equipment.
Soviet sources list the deaths of 474,967 of the 2,652,672 German Armed Forces POW taken in the War. However, Dr. Rüdiger Overmans believes that it seems entirely plausible, while not provable, that an additional 1 million German military personnel listed as missing actually died in Soviet custody as POWs.
Two and a half million Jews fled Europe prior to the war. Three million and 800,000 to four million Jews died in labor camps during WWII. German kept good records they kept in camps. There is reasonable proof that 4.2 million Jews were shipped to Urals, east in Russia. Possibly has high as 8.5 million Germans civilians, mostly women and children, were shipped by train to slave labor camps in Siberia by the Russians.
Roosevelt and Truman were are criminals
Henry Lewis Stimson twice served as Secretary of War 19111913 under Republican William Howard Taft and 19401945, under Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt. In the latter role he was a leading hawk calling for war against Germany.
Stimson pushed the crazy idea that the very destructiveness of the A-bomb would shatter the ages-old belief that wars could be advantageous.
Stimson strongly opposed the Morgenthau Plan to de-industrialize and allowed the German people to starve to death after the war and partition Germany into several smaller states. Even still due to John J. McCloy and Gen. Eisenhower four times as many German prisoners of war died while in custody of the Americans at the end of WWII, than died in German POW camps. Over 1.2 million German POWs starved to death in American POW camps.
John J. McCloy Assistant Secretary of War from 1941 to 1945, during which he was noted for opposing the nuclear bombing of Japan.
Stimson worked closely with his top aides Robert P. Patterson (who succeeded Stimson as Secretary), Robert Lovett (who handled the Air Force), and John J. McCloy.
MccCloy refused to stand up for the USAAF bombing raids on the rail approaches to Auschwitz concentration camp, and for his pardoning of convicted Nazi war criminals as High Commissioner for Germany, and thousands of the worse of the worse of these war criminals/scientist were brought to the US for work and live a happy life. He supported the recruiting of the SS Nazi intelligence into working to spy on the Soviets and these assholes ended up running the West German CIA.
General George C. Marshall failed to say HELL NO or resign .felt the decision to use the atomic bomb - to introduce a new and more dangerous level of warfare to the world - was a political rather than military decision. Assistant Sec. of War John McCloy recalled: "[Marshall's] insistence to me that whether we should drop an atomic bomb on Japan was a matter for the President to decide, not the Chief of Staff since it was not a military question... the question of whether we should drop this new bomb on Japan, in his judgment, involved such imponderable considerations as to remove it from the field of a military decision." (quoted in Gar Alperovitz, The Decision To Use the Atomic Bomb, pg. 364).
McCloy said Marshall told him, "Don't ask me to make the decision." (Forrest C. Pogue, George C. Marshall: Statesman 1945-1959, pg. 550, note 30).
No US school or government building should be names after a Confederate hero or leaders of the US civil war. For example, in Hampton, VA two schools are named Jefferson Davis Middle School and Robert E. Lee Elementary School. There are more than 30 schools named after Jefferson Davis, Stonewall Jackson or Robert E. Lee in the South and Southeast. There are also schools bearing the names of lesser-known Confederates leaders.
Given that General Leonard Wood and General Chaffee were war criminals in the Philippines , therefore, I support the changing the names of the US Army's Fort Leonard Wood and Fort Chaffee .
I am not happy with the bad votes by US Rep. Rick Larsen regarding defense spending and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
