Be Part of History in the Making
The most historic decisions since Delgamuukw will be delivered on November
18, 2004 when the Supreme Court of Canada hands down the ruling in the Haida
case (see the attached press release from EAGLE and the Council of the Haida
Nation for a synopsis) and the Taku River First Nation case. To mark this
historic legal juncture the Council of the Haida Nation and EAGLE are
hosting two special events on November 25, 2004.
"The Spirit of the Earth": A symbolic procession in Vancouver
The Council of the Haida Nation and the First Nations Summit will be hosting
a walk in downtown Vancouver at 12 pm. We ask that the First Nations who
attend wear full regalia - a show of strength, tradition and dignity
commemorating an important milestone in our history. This event is open to
the public and all those who are concerned about our collective future. At
the conclusion of the walk, we will hear from First Nations and other
leaders. Further details of the walk will be released on November 22, 2004.
"The Spirit of Unity": A fundraising dinner and silent auction
To celebrate/commemorate the Supreme Court of Canada decision, EAGLE will be
hosting a fundraising dinner at the Floata Restaurant at Suite 400, 180
Keefer Street from 6:00 - 10:00 pm. There will be special Aboriginal
cultural presentations, brief speeches and appearances by surprise guests.
This event will also feature a fabulous silent auction featuring rare
artwork and unique merchandise. This will be the "must attend" event of the
social season for people involved or interested in First Nations rights,
social justice, protection of the environment and Aboriginal law.
We will also provide an opportunity for those who would like to make public
donations at this Special Event to EAGLE. EAGLE is a charity that operates
solely on donations from individuals, foundations, and First Nations. The
funds raised at this dinner will enable EAGLE to continue our work,
specifically to protect the old-growth forests and the surrounding oceans of
Haida Gwaii. This work benefits all of us! Our work, such as sustaining
the Haida case, has far reaching benefits for other Aboriginal Peoples and
all others who care about working together to create a sustainable future.
We will publicly recognize all sponsors who support us at this historic
event as well as provide tax receipts.
Tickets are $40 each; a table of 10 is $375. To order your tickets for the
dinner and/or to sponsor a table, please contact EAGLE at (604) 536-6261,
. Further information about both events will be posted
soon at www.eaglelaw.org.
