The TERA Beautification Commmitte (TERA BC) including representatives from
the Arroyo Arts Collective and Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock is seeking to
commission up to seventeen local artists to design and create ceramic mosaic
panels for the 2008 Eagle Rock Make Art Not Trash program.
Each selected artist will design and fabricate four related tile mosaics,
incorporating an Eagle Rock theme, on 26.5" x 19.5" hardibacker panels to be
attached to the four sides of one cast concrete trash receptacle. Artists
are also encouraged to include community members/groups into the conception,
design, and/or implementation.
The selected mosaic panels will be exhibited at the Center for the Arts,
Eagle Rock prior to their permanent installation along the business
corridors of Eagle Rock.
The Eagle Rock Make Art Not Trash project strives to unite the rich cultural
heritage of the community with the creativity of artists and Eagle Rock's
civic minded businesses and organizations to beautify and uniquely identify
the Eagle Rock community while providing a positive solution to local

Each selected artist will be awarded $300 to create four ceramic mosaic
panels. Artists may apply to create up to two Art Cans, for a total of $600
Each artist will receive four hardibacker panels and grout, which must be
used for the base and attachment of each mosaic. Artists may use other
precut or handmade tile or ceramic material. The Center For The Arts, Eagle
Rock will make available its kiln for artists choosing to make tiles from
scratch. Materials will be reimbursed up to $200 with receipts.
All submittals will be reviewed by the TERA BC. Based on the initial review,
the panel will select up to seventeen artists to create designs.
Panel review criteria include artistic merit and creativity of theme, public
art or community experience and ability to undertake the project and
complete it within the allotted time period. Once selected, artists and the
TERA BC will coordinate on any design development with the community or
access to the kiln.
TERA BC serves the right to review and approve the mosaic designs before
fabrication. Each panel must pass a technical inspection for quality and
tile adhesion before it is accepted for final installation.
Final installation will be done by a professional contractor working on
TERA BC encourages artists with diverse styles, who may or may not be new to
community art projects to participate. Preference will be given to artists
living or working in the Eagle Rock area.
Artists must be 18 years or older and able to enter into an agreement.
Artists should submit the following by April 5, 2008, 4:00pm
- One page letter indicating your interest in this opportunity
- Sketch or rendering of proposed mosaic design
- Up to 8 slides or cd with 8 jpegs images of other sample artworks,
numbered and labeled with the artist's name
- Image identification sheet, providing materials, size, date of
execution and other relevant information numbered to correspond to the
- Your current resume, with telephone and email
- A self-addressed stamped envelope for the return or the slides or
cd, if desired
