The following item, reposted from the "qalam" list (on writing
systems), may be of interest to some.
From the description: "Multilingualism is a concern that is
increasingly taken into account in the design and development of
natural language processing applications."
This may seem a bit removed from concerns of approaches to literacy
and basic education in multilingual societies, but increased
recognition of multilingualism in various spheres of activity seems
to reflect wider recognition of its importance, and that in turn
can't help but support activity in all areas.
