Medieval reinactment has taught me a great deal about teaching and lost arts.
For example, the refinements of Goldwork embroidery have been totally lost to us, since its secrets were held in a guild whose masters were wiped out by Bubonic plague.
Finding recipes for medieval incense is incredibly difficult, since the recipes were "secrets" of individuals and churches.
Etc. The number of instances of important techniques and technologies being lost is enormous.
So I would say, if you love your art, teach the tradition, the basics, and excellence of course, to as many people as have the passion for the art. Write everything down that you need to be confidential now, and display the work as much as possible. Because a pandemic flu could be the next bubonic plague, and there is nothing sadder than to have beauty wiped from the world for the sake of a "secret".
My two cents,
