Fifth District Officers Help 5D Vice Unit Secure Large Drug Bust After Traffic Stop
On November 30, 2012, at approximately 5:20 pm, Fifth District Officers Travis Weston and John Wright conducted a traffic stop on a GMC Yukon in the 200 Block of Adams Street, NE. As the officers approached the vehicle they smelled a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. After a brief investigation approximately 45 grams of crack cocaine, 4.9 grams of marijuana, and almost $18,000 in US Currency were recovered. Two occupants of the vehicle were arrested and the case was presented and accepted for prosecution with the US District Court.
Further investigation lead to the application for and approval of a search warrant. With the assistance of Sergeant Haggerty and other members of the Vice Unit, execution of that search warrant led to the seizure of 250 grams of powder cocaine, and approximately 170 grams of crack cocaine and additional cash were seized.
