Thanks for sharing this obit. Here is what I have for Jona Clyde:
parents: Walter Harrison Morefield & Emma Amanda Cain m. 26 nov 1916
Surry Co, NC Walter Harrison 1896-1988 Emma @1896-1937
grandparents: John William Morefield and Sarah Elizabeth Shelton m. 1
jan 1889 Surry Co, NC John William 1862-1937 Sarah Elizabeth 1886-1963
great-grandparents: Frederick Morefield and Mary Ann "Polly" Fulk m.
22 apr 1858 Surry Co, NC Frederick 1832-1890 Polly 1840-1923
great-great-grandparents: probably John Morefield & Elizabeth Hines
m. 17 aug 1828 Davidson Co, NC. Not proved as Frederick's parents,
but I believe that John Morefield died between 1840 and 1850 and that
this is his widow and sons:
1850 Surry, NC North Division 646:279 #169/169
Elizabeth Moorfield 54 NC
Fredric 16 NC
John 14 NC
The following two census records are consistent with this family:
1830 Davidson NC 120: 251 John Morefield
1 male 0-5
1 male 50-60
1 female 30-40
1840 Davidson, NC 359:219 John Morefield
1 male 0-5
1 male 5-10
1 male 60-70
1 female 40-50
Davidson Co. was formed 1822 from Rowan Co., where a Morefield family
had been living since 1768. Some Rowan Co. records show that the
Morefield family there lived in a district that became Davidson Co.
In 1820 Rowan Co, NC there was a Frederick Hine and in 1830 Davidson
Co, NC he was named 2 households away from John Morefield. Note that
John Morefield of the 1830 and 1840 census was several years older
than his wife; it seems very possible that he was married before he
married Elizabeth. We have speculated that he might have been the
father of the Spurgeon Morefield b. NC @1812 who moved to IN and IL;
he may also have been the father of George Washington Morefield of
Davidson Co, NC.
Wouldn't it be interesting to have a DNA test of a male descendant of
George Washington, a male descendant of Spurgeon and a male
descendant of Jona Clyde?
