Those of you who are members of the London Cycling Campaign (hopefully all
of you!) and who receive the London Cyclist magazine will no doubt have seen
a series of articles called Biking in the Borough of . . ., outlining
things of interest, especially from a cycling perspective, in various
boroughs. Well, now its Lambeths turn!
The editors have now asked for a piece about Lambeth. Janet has kindly
offered to coordinate the article - please see the e-mail below and let her
know if you have any ideas as to what such an article might include about
Lambeth. Do you have any interesting local knowledge? Any gems worth
mentioning that youve discovered whilst cycling? Do get in touch!

Telling London cyclists about Lambeth
I am co-ordinating a 2 page spread in an autumn edition of London Cyclist
for the Cycling in series. I have had some thoughts about what we might
like to cover and am interested in your views. The piece needs to be with
the LCC by May 17th (due to peoples various commitments) so I need to get
it sorted sooner rather than later.
Topics to cover:
Brief intro about the borough where it is, its social mix,
What to see and do (Ive got quite carried away with this bit)
> I favour mentioning a bit about the Southbank but saying nothing more as
>Id like to encourage cyclists further south Several famous people have
>lived/died in the borough e.g. William Blake, van Gogh, Charlie Chaplin,
>Violet Szabo, Mrs Beeton, Pissarro, William Bligh There are some lovely
>parks and as its autumn, I thought it very important to cover those where
>there are gorgeous trees The borough has some important history e.g.
>Chartists meeting in Kennington Park, anti-slavery movement connections
>with Clapham Common, first electrically lit avenue in England, so we can
>make links to these Good night life
 Encouragements for cycling
> Cycle routes/ good routes The Womens Design Service project in Lambeth
> Impact of the congestion charge Bike shops Richard Ambler
 Barriers to cycling
> Vauxhall Cross (aka getting here from North London) Potholes is this a
>big issue? Crime how often are bikes getting nicked in Lambeth?
 A bit about Lambeth Cyclists
> Referring mostly to other bits of magazine
We will also need some photos, at least 2 if not 3, depends on how much we
want to say.
Anyhow, I would love to hear your ideas so please get in touch 020 8671
2660 or janet@...
. I am happy to do the initial draft if
no-one else wants to, but I do want to make sure that I reflect other
peoples views (otherwise its going to be about the artists and history of
Lambeth, not necessarily what the London Cyclist audience is interested in).
So, are there particular things that really need to be included that I have
left out? Are there things I have mentioned you think shouldnt be in? Do
you have 400 words you desperately need to write about cycling in Lambeth?
Do you have a photo that would encapsulate cycling in Lambeth?
Looking forward to hearing from you
