Last night, after the polls closed, Wendy, Vallerie, Brian, John Elliott, and I met at the Iguana in Milton to await results and discuss the entire process that we've just gone through. I must tell you that, while disappointed, we were focused on lessons learned and future activism for the party here in Delaware. I think we've got a better...let's say more realistic...idea of what we need to do to increase our effectiveness. Spirits were high and Wendy was undeterred. She's going to be putting her committment to libertarianism on the line every chance she gets. She'll be running for Milton City Council.
All five of us have agreed to meet within the next few days to develop a template for any future LPD candidate...state requirements, personal committments, effective/ineffective promotion, strategy, etc. We intend to get together Sunday if Brian's schedule permits.
We also need to give a lot of credit to Will Fox for his help crystalizing Wendy's positions and helping define areas of concern to the voters of the 19th. (Thanks, Will. Your help was indispensable and your committment admirable.)
I think we have made inroads in Sussex County and I know that we have party members who will continue what this race has begun. We've made contacts within the political establishment in the county and we've established a favorable relationship with members of the media who could prove influential in the LPD's future plans.
Also, on Sunday, I was contacted by someone in Middletown who is interested in running for office. He will try to be at the NCC meeting at Panera on the 16th. Yesterday I got a phone call from a Libertarian in Millville (Sussex County) who wants to run for a county office plus two people joined our Meetup.com site. If my Harrington High School math hasn't let me down, that's four contacts in two days. I have to believe that Wendy's run, if not Wendy herself, inspired this activity. If that was the only silver lining I'd be thrilled, but with all we've learned there's so much more to be positive about.
So, it's time to catch our collective breath and get ready for 2010!

Thank you for all your effort Wendy.
And thanks also to Brian, Jim, and everyone else who contributed.
Despite the disappointing (though not entirely unexpected) outcome, you
put together an excellent campaign with very limited time and resources,
and you gained valuable experience, name recognition, and hopefully a
few allies who may be helpful to the LPD in the future.
