Please welcome Barbara Luszczynska, an original survivor of the deportations
and our first member from Missouri USA! Barbara I hope that you can provide
some support, and receive support from, other members of our growing group
on our shared goals of Research, Remembrance and Recognition.
Thanks for the snapshot of your personal odyssey. Providing these
introductions helps us make sometimes unexpected connections. My father's
family (Wisniowski) was from outside Brody (east of Lwów) and also spent a
fair bit of time in Teheran and Palestine after Archangel.
I will add some thoughts on the Zwiazek Sybirakow in Poland in another

Dear Mr. Wisniowski,
Thank you for responding to my e-mail. I was 8
years old when the Soviets deported me and my family to Kazakhstan.
When the WW2 broke out, my family gathered at my grandparents' Helena and
Jozef Lisowski's home in Delatyn, a small village south of Lwow. In case,
there is still somebody out there who might remember my family, I'll give
you the names of our family.
In April of 1940 we were deported from Delatyn:
My mother, Zofia Lisowska-Gebarowicz, my brother Jerzy Witold Gebarowicz,
myself-Barbara Gebarowicz-Luszczynska, my maternal grandmother, Helena
Lisowska, my aunt Mieczyslawa Lisowska, my other aunt Wanda
Lisowska-Begejowicz, her son, Janusz Begejowicz, my paternal grandmother,
Bronislawa Smolka-Gebarowicz, her sister, Maria Smolka.
We were taken to a small village, Kalinowka, south of Kuybyshev. In 1942
we left for Persia (Iran) and lived in Persia till 1945, in Refugee Camps
#2 and later #3. From there we went to Lebanon, and lived there at first
in Baabdat, a small village in the mountains, and then in Zouk-Michael
also in the mountains, till 1950.
From there, my grandmother, Helena Lisowska and my aunt, Mieczyslawa
Lisowska, myself and my brother, went to England.
I've lived in the USA since 1959.
Here's my short "Odyssey". I'll try to join the list,
or perhaps you have to do it for me?
P.S. I've just learned (you may know this already)
that there is a group of "Sybiraki" in Poland:
