During recent correspondence, a lady at Jewishgen gave me this website
address. Don't know if this has already been posted, but for those not aware
of its existance;
It's superb! 1939 detailed maps of Galicia and all Poland.Earlier maps
including very detailed maps of Poland in Austro -Hungarian times, history,
old photo's etc.etc. There are also links to the 1929 Poland Business
Directory. I found my grandfathers name on this some time ago.Check it out.
When the map of Galicia comes up click on the area you want to search. This
will bring up an enlargement, you can then move around that to find villages
etc. Also back at the first page are links to other maps. Click on "inne
mapy kresow" and select the "okolice" (area) you want to look at for even
better larger scale maps and some district history.
I came across an interesting item after selecting the Husiatynu okolice. At
the bottom of the map click on return. It brought me to a Podole history, in
English, click on 'deported' to see a few names of deported persons, also at
the bottom of the history are further links.
Spend some time, have a good look and play around with it. It's a gold mine!
Apparently the Galicia map is available to order. I will post details when I
To remove the annoying advert that appears on the right hand side of the
page, click on the x in the top right corner of it.
