Please welcome Richard Widerynski from California as part of our growing US
contingent, and with a African camps + Anders connection. I reproduce his
intro letters below so that group members may make some connections with
their own experiences.
Dear Mr. Wisniowski,
My name is Rich Widerynski, I am the President of the Polish American
Congress of Southern California.
On March 3rd 2002, the PAC of So. Cal. in conjunction with the Polish
Consulate in Los Angeles is hosting a movie called Dolina Placu (Valley of
Tears) produced by a gentleman by the name of Eugeniusz Starkey. Mr.
Starkey's movie is an hour in length and is in Polish with English
subtitles. This is his third movie dealing with the topic of Poles who were
deported to the far reaches of the Soviet Union at the beginning of WWII as
well as with the Katyn massacre. We plan to show the film at a local
university in order to bring attention to this overlooked aspect of WWII to
college students as well as because of the wonderful venues schools have to
offer... Additionally, I am willing to disseminate info. about
your film and the organization to other PAC chapters and the national
office. Last but not least, I would be honored to join the [Kresy-Siberia]
A friend recently informed me about your website and I was interested in
knowing how we might be able to view your film perhaps as a part of the
program on March 3rd. My interest in this topic not only stems from the
fact that I am Polish American also but due to the fact that my parents and
grandparents were deported from Luck, Poland to Archangelsk in February of
After the amnesty of Poles on Soviet territory, they were fortunate enough
to locate Anders Army and exit to Persia. My mother, grandmother and older
sister relocated to Southern Rodesia, Africa while my father went on to
train with the Polish Second Corp. and eventually fight at Monte Cassino and
the Adriatic coast. We lost my grandfather and oldest sister to starvation
and exposure in the Soviet Union. After the war my parents reunited in
England where my older brother was born and then they emigrated to the US
where I as well as a younger sister were born. Any information you could
provide me in regards to your movie would be of help.
The PAC of So. Cal. has incorporated your website into the links section of
it's website www.poloniacal.org Please drop me an e-mail whether in Polish
or English and let me know if perhaps we can work on a project together.
