It is infact a photo of the Memorial to the Sybiraks, and I am in touch with the editors about it. They have agreed to investigate and get back to me. The plan is to have them correct the online version, and issue a correction in the paper as well.
Can anyone help with identifying the photograph in the attached story. It was sent to me by a friend whose eye caught the phrase “... a Jewish memorial at the entry to the former Warsaw ghetto.”
She thinks this photograph is in fact the memorial to the Poles, mostly Christians, exiled to Siberia. The Jewish memorial is apparently a much more grandiose one. This story is from The Guardian. Another case of sloppy editing?
My friend was wondering whether there was some more in-depth info in the KSVM regarding the names of the places on those rails.
