It is no replacement for a paper book for some old-timers like me, but comes in handy for copying excerpts rather than typing from scratch.Basia is right on all counts about the value of this book. The author is a pro, so it has the added charm of being a nice read even if the subject matter weren't compelling enough already.John HaluchaSault Ste Marie, Canada

For newer members seeking a detailed recounting of arrest, imprisonment and gulag, there is no better than "A World Apart" by Gustaw Herling. It is in Penguin books and is un-put-downable. Truly gripping. Albert Camus said it "should be published and read in every country". The translation from Polish to English is excellent.
He tells other peoples' stories in short form as well as his own in more extensive detail. It explained some of my family members' behaviour to me. The printing of some interesting correspondence as an addendum is eye-opening.
I cannot recommend it strongly enough. Try Abe books. I find that if they cannot find a book by title they can by author if they have it.
