I have to say that I am disappointed with our group members! Very disappointed, and shocked actually, and bewildered!
I recently saw some figures on how many of our over 1000 members have actually paid their yearly membership fee. Would you believe – only about 20 ?!! That is shocking!
Think of all the help our members have received over these last 10 years: the advice and sharing of information, the research done, searches in Russian-language archives, the maps found, the free translations (which would cost a small fortune otherwise), and the possibility of posting photos on the Memorial Gallery (this server isn’t free!) etc etc. Is the annual membership fee of US $40 (£25) unreasonable??? We get many messages of thanks from members who have found information about their families and even discovered long-lost family members thanks to the group.
The Memorial Gallery and now the new Virtual Museum are fantastic opportunities for us to store our family memories, to preserve our history and promote it to the world. Remember the group’s key words: RESEARCH REMEMBRANCE RECOGNITION
I do realise that the Virtual Museum isn’t working as well as it should be and like many of you, I feel frustrated every time I go there. But you may not be aware of the fact that the VM project is having serious financial problems, seeing as its main supporters in the Polish government and Senate etc died at Smolensk and their successors, not being quite as nationalistic as they were, are not giving us the same kind of support as before (see Eve’s message a couple of days ago). The VM can’t be created without financial support and of course it’s not easy to get financial support for a project that doesn’t work – it’s a vicious circle! That is why your membership fees are so important right now! And extra contributions from those who can afford it.
Please read Stefan’s message below again – and take action right away! Important decisions, which are dependent on our financial situation, need to be made in the very near future.

Subject: [Kresy-Siberia] Message to Kresy-Siberia Group members about financial contributions
Dear Kresy-Siberia member
This is a gentle reminder in case you are one of the members who has not yet made your financial contribution to Kresy-Siberia for 2011.
If you are one of the members who responded to my recent request with a donation, thank you! Those who responded clearly valued the benefits they received from being part of this group. Each generous gift helps the group continue to support members with their research and to preserve our families' histories on the internet.
But if you have not yet contributed for 2011, please do so now. The basic contribution requested from all members is only 25 GBP, EUR 30, $40 or 120 PLN for the year. Though this payment is voluntary, we expect that most group members can and will make at least this basic annual contribution to the group, which even at this level would be tax-deductible for most members.
In addition, this year especially, we are asking each member for an additional donation to further the development of the group's Kresy-Siberia Virtual Museum, including the Wall of Names honouring those who went through the Kresy-Siberia experience and the Hall of Testimonies with personal stories from survivors, which we are video recording while they are still here to tell them to us.
Thank you in advance for your immediate action and your ongoing support!

Hi Barbara, Thank you for sharing your family story, which gives us all the hope and inspiration to continue our work on behalf of all Kresy-Siberia groupMessage 36 of 36 , May 31, 2011View SourceHi Barbara,Thank you for sharing your family story, which gives us all the hope and inspiration to continue our work on behalf of all Kresy-Siberia group members and their families - past, present and future. We have also set up a new Contribution Page to make it easier for members to make their subscriptions and donations:Together, we are a special community of people, bound together by our shared experiences, interests and values. While we have done well attracting grants in the past to start developing our ambitious and educational "Kresy-Siberia Virtual Museum" website, we do need to look to ourselves as group members first to support our basic mission: to research, remember and recognize the brave people of Poland's Kresy borderlands, the deportees and the exiles fighting for freedom and survival in World War 2.To do this we absolutely need member contributions of the 4-Ts : Time (helping other members), Talent (applying our skills), Testaments (sharing photos and stories), and yes, Treasure (donating our money to cover group expenses). However, let emphasise again that the requests for annual subscriptions and donations to help keep this group going are purely voluntary. Many members have responded positively to our appeal for support in the sprit that you have expressed, Barbara, donating either at the suggested "friends" support level ($40 or GBP 25 or 120 PLN per year) or at higher amounts if they were able to do so. To these generous members (and some were very generous indeed), I say THANK YOU personally and on behalf of all group members and their families - past, present and future. However, some other members reported being "put off" by the request for contributions to the group or made to feel bad about not donating, perhaps even causing them to go silent or think about withdrawing. To these concerned members, I say please do not go and please STAY INVOLVED, as your presence and participation, perhaps contributing in other ways, enriches the community and is of great value to us all. Finally, the largest number of group members are somewhere in the middle - they have not contributed financially yet this year but have not rejected the idea of doing so. To these members I say please ACT NOW and do not put it off a moment longer - visit our new user-friendly Contribution Page to offer your Time, Talent, Testaments and Treasure. Any gift, no matter how seemingly modest, is deeply appreciated and each will help the group to continue our special mission into the future. If anyone has any questions, comments, concerns or suggestions about the group and its work, please do not hold back -contact me personally at stefan.wisniowski@.... Whether active or quiet, rich or poor, every member of this group has a special, personal reason for being here - and you are valued for the important role you can play in helping us all go forward together.Thanking you in advance,Stefan WisniowskiGroup Founder and President, Kresy-Siberia FoundationSydney Australia-------- Original Message --------

Hello - I just wanted to say that I would be more than willing to set up a payment of £5 monthly for my contribution to the Kresy Group. If someone would let me know how and when then I will set it up. I am eternally grateful to this group. When I first joined, I had little information and no idea on how to even begin any research.I was, at that time, wanting to start to find out more about, what I had believed, was the slaughter of my entire family in Wolynia. So many people offered their help, expertise and experiences. I found out more about the UPD and what had happene there and grieved for my family, but at last I believed I had, at least, an idea of what had happened to them. Someone on this site then alerted me to a site where I could post on the name of my family's village and post their names. I did this, thinking, perhaps,I could find out if there was a mass grave for that village which I could then visit. As some of you will be aware - 2 years after posting on that site a family member contacted me!! They had not been slaughtered but had been sent to Germany as slave labour. They had then been repatriated to Poland where they had continued to live long and happy lives. My Dad had searched and the Red Cross had searched but they were never found. 69 years after my Dad was taken from home by the Russians, my family and I found each other. That was purely down to this group. How can a thank you be enough? How can any contribution of money be enough? You all helped to give me back my family and also make me feel, for the first time ever, like a whole person with 2 sides to my family.I will be flying to Poland in August and will be meeting the many members of this, now, very large family. It is very sad that my Dad lived his whole life without his family and never knew that they had survived and flourished. But, they are there for me and for my son and for following generations. We will be united again after a lifetime of not knowing. Thank you to each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart. To all of you who are still searching - never give up hope. You don't know if, like me, you will be sitting at your laptop one rainy morning and suddenly see in your inbox a message from someone who has your name and like me think oh, someone has the same name as me and then open the message and find................................. family!!!Love and warmest wishes to you all.Barbara Szczepanski Dunleavy,Nottingham, England
