Please welcome Mark Kusiewicz to the group.
Thank you very much for the offer to share information from your articles
photos and stories.
One of our links on the website
is to an article about the Kolonia Santa Rosa. I believe that we have a
number of members of the group whose families were also there.
Mark I encourage you to get the most out of the group - including entering
you family's names on the virtual Memorial Wall, and posting their towns and
travels into the Connections database.
PS I lived in the Beaches in Toronto for 7 years - miss the boardwalk!

Thank you for your rapid response. I am actually doing the leg work for my
mother who is a survivor of the movement. She went to The Colony of Santa
Rosa in Leon Mexico, and was then sponsored to come to Toronto Canada. She
has began wondering where some of here friends ended up from this colony and
figured I could just type it into the internet and draw them up. Well I
started this search in 1994 and realized that there was a group out of
Chicago called, "The Poles of Santa Rosa". I had missed their 50th
anniversary but was able to sent my mother and her sister to a re-union a
year later in Chicago. Now I believe the 60th is coming and would like her
to go to Mexico and see the Colony. During all of this is was missing the
details of the actual journey from Tarnopol to Mexico. This past Christmas
my Aunt was speaking about the horrible journey etc. My 11 year old
daughter was so intrigued she actually based her class speech on the
My mother was not an orphan, they were 4 sisters and her mother and father.
Her brother was stationed in Italy , for the battle of Monte Casino. He died
their of dysentery and was buried at the cemetery at Monte Casino.
On their journey from Tarnopol, through Siberia, one of my mothers sister
had died of starvation and fatigue and was buried there. I also have the
letters that my Uncle (the one form Monte Casino) sent to the family as they
were traveling through, Kazakhstan, Tehran, and Pakistan. It was very
interesting reading the letters where he is describing the war.
By joining this group I hope to add more information from the articles.
